19yr-old s*x worker confesses to taking alcohol,chewing miraa ‘while in office’

A 19yr-old sex worker pleaded guilty to charges of theft before Milimani law courts Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku. 

Grace Wanjiru who was charged for for stealing a customers mobile phone after he allegedly failed to pay her Sh 400 for services rendered tickled the court when she also confessed to taking Blue Ice alcohol and chewing miraa moderately when attending to her clients.

Wanjiru who was arraigned at Milimani law courts last month and charged with one count of stealing contrary to the law is currently at Langata women's prison awaiting sentencing. 

Grace is alleged to have committed the offence on 6th April 2021 at Duruma roard in Nairobi where she stole one mobile phone make Nokia 6.1plus dark blue in colour valued at Sh18,000 property of kiprop Victor Beth.

According to a pre-sentencing report filed in court Grace dropped out of school at class 7 due to poverty,her brother told the probation officer that he urged her to continue with her education but she chose not to.

In 2017 Grace is alleged to have run away from home and moved in with four of her peers in a rented Sh1000 house in Korogocho and in 2019 she was introduced to commercial sex work until the day she was arrested.

Although she claimed to have been arrested before with the offence of loitering with intent of prostitution,her uncle stated to the probation officer that he bailed her severally from central police station.

Grace pleaded for none custodial sentences claiming she got desperate due to financial problems, she took the phone because she wanted the complainant to come and pay her.

The 19yr-old confessed to the probation officer that she is Epileptic and she believes that her ailment is superstitious 

The probation report concludes by asking the court to give the accused a custodial sentence to enable her reform while in prison and cut the antisocial peer and deter her from the vice of Commercial sex work and receive guidance and counselling while in prison.

Chief magistrate Martha Mutuku has issued a production order to the prison to bring her to court on 12th may 2021 for her sentencing.
