19-year-old girl gives birth to 5 babies, all infants die shortly thereafter

A 19-year-old girl from Tabora, west-central Tanzania, gave birth to premature five infants, who died shortly after being delivered from their mother.

Monica David, who was 5 months pregnant, was taken to hospital while in labour on September 16 and on the first day of her admission to the health facility in Tabora, gave birth to one baby.

The following day, she was delivered of four other babies.

The five infants, who were all male, were placed in the neonatal intensive care unit, but died shortly thereafter.

The girl’s spouse said he was saddened by his newborn sons’ deaths.

“All through, I was praying to get male children. It is sad that all my sons are dead,” said Monica’s spouse as quoted Tanzania’s CG FM Radio.

Monica, however, is in a stable condition, doctors at a Tabora hospital said.
