Sixteen studetns, two teachers and two support staff have tested positive for Covid-19 at Mobembe Girls Boarding Primary School in Nyamira County.

Confirming the incident today to KNA, Nyamira County Education director, Ms.  Margaret Mwirigi, said the 16 students are isolated within the school and are under strict supervision by medical officers while the other staff are recuperating under home-based care.

“Testing of pupils at Mobembe Girls Boarding Primary School was necessitated after a teacher in the school tested positive when he went to hospital last week after feeling unwell and medics recommended for a Covid-19 test and results revealed that he had contracted coronavirus disease,” Ms. Mwirigi explained.

She said that the Nyamira Medical Services department fumigated the school in line with Ministry of Health Covid-19 regulations following the confirmation of the results.

“We are working with other key education and health stakeholders to support the institution to ensure that all the infected kids recuperate speedily and resume their studies. And we are urging everyone to adhere to Covid 19 regulations of maintaining social distance, wearing a mask correctly and sanitizing constantly as instructed by the Ministry of Health”, the officer said.

Further, she revealed that since studies for Class Four, Eight and Form Four resumed, they had so far reported one case from Nyambaria Boys High school. The high school student, she said, has since recovered and returned to school.
