Police in Nairobi on Monday, March 7 arrested 16 suspects in connection with an earlier assault case of a woman by a gang of bodaboda riders along Wangari Maathai road.

In an update on the ongoing operation, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said that police have also seized five motorbikes.

"Update on an earlier attack on a motorist. 16 suspects have been arrested and five motor cycles impounded in connection with an earlier attack on a motorist. Operations continue as we appeal for more information from the public," the statement read.

Mutyambai also said that police officers were still in pursuit of more suspects who were involved in the assault case.

“Things are not going to be business as usual. We will hunt all those behind the attack,” he said.

The lady in the video is said to have been sexually assaulted by the bodaboda operators following an accident on Friday leading to the altercation.

The viral video attracted an online uproar with netizens demanding justice and calling on police to act.

Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i also condemned the incident.

“I am shocked and disgusted by a viral video clip of a female motorist being molested by suspected bodaboda riders along Wangari Maathai /Forest Road,” he said.

Matiang’i said that the government was out to protect all road users from such acts of aggression.

“I have asked our security agents to ensure that all the perpetrators of this dastardly act are swiftly apprehended and suitably punished for their heinous act,” he said.
