15 MPs from Northern Kenya have expressed support for National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and distanced themselves from a fresh petition seeking his removal from office.

The lawmakers led by Yusuf Haji (Garissa), Mohammed Mahmud (Mandera) and Abdullahi Ali (Wajir) on Thursday, June 4, threw their weight behind Duale, warning Kieni MP and his consorts to stop collecting signatures.

They spoke at a press conference held in Nairobi just a day after the plot to hound Duale out of office emerged.

At least 117 MPs have signed a petition by Kieni MP Kanini Kega asking President Uhuru Kenyatta to kick out the Garissa Town MP lawmaker from the Majority Leader office.

But Senator Haji led the group in reaffirming their faith in the leadership and commitment of Duale.

“We thank the President for having faith in the “son of the soil”, Duale, no amount of words will describe his kind gesture but as a people we will continue supporting and defending him,” Senator Haji, who chaired the meeting, told the press conference at Lenana Towers, Nairobi.

“I support Duale for the good job he had done and we will continue supporting him,” the Mandera senator said.

“If anybody is planning something against Duale he should stop because President Kenyatta has shown faith in him,” Wajir senator cautioned.

Among those who attended the meeting were: MPs Sophia Abdi (Ijara), Anab Mohammed (Garissa Women Rep), Dekow Imana (Nominated Senator), Nasri Ibrahim (Nominated mp) and Dahir Mohammed (Daabab).

Others were Mohammed Sheikh (Wajir South), Rashid Amin (Wajir East), Mohammed Bashir (Mandera North), Ahmed Kolosh (Wajir West) and Yussuf Adan Haji (Mandera West).
