Eleven students of Manga Girls’ Model School in Nyamira County were on Saturday, March 13 injured while rescuing a suicidal schoolmate.

The suicidal girl had attempted to jump from the second-floor of a storeyed lecture hall. Her rescuers, 11 in number, had convened to save her from fatally thudding against the ground.

The 11 learners sustained bruises and minor injuries after successfully holding the free-falling student.

One of the rescuers lost her tooth in the incident, police said.

The injured girls were taken to Manga Sub-County Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.

It remains unclear why the Form One student attempted suicide, though teachers at Manga Girls’ Model School, a boarding institution, said the minor had been caught in possession of items stolen from her schoolmates.

The teenager is being held in lawful custody at Sengera Police Station.
