Turkana: 10 suspected bandits attack matatu, kill 1, injure 2, make away with all valuables from passengers

One person was killed Kakong' Trading Center in Turkana County after being ambushed by 10 suspected bandits.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, two other people were injured during the incident.

"At around 1700 hours, a Toyota vehicle registration KDG 490 U that was being driven by David Wekesa of Quick Shuttle Sacco from Lodwar to Kitale was stopped at around Kakong' Trading Center by 10 suspected bandits.

"The driver defied the order which made the bandits shoot at the vehicle thereby fatally injuring one Jackline Ekai, aged 30 years.

"The said driver, aged about 41 years was shot in the neck and one Diana Akila, aged 14 years was shot in the left leg," the report read in part.

Bandits steal valuables

After the shooting, the attackers stole all valuables that were in the vehicle.

"The vehicle landed on the left side of the road whereby the bandits stole all valuables from the passengers.

"Multi-agency team which received information from members of the public proceeded to the scene whereby a shootout ensued and they managed to repulse the bandits," the report stated.

The injured were taken to Kakong' Dispensary for treatment while the body moved to Lodwar County Referral Hospital mortuary.
