Ageing is an undeniable process that is sure to catch up on us at some point. However, you can  influence the age effects positively and hence look and feel younger, too. You want to know the secret?

Nancy Nyokabi spills the tea on some amazing tips and tricks to help you look younger than your actual age, from skin care hacks to lifestyles choices

1. Stay hydrate

Staying hydrated is not only important for your overall health, but it can also help you maintain a youthful appearance. When you drink enough water, it helps keep your skin hydrated, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and promoting a healthy glow.

Hydration also supports the body’s natural detoxification process, which can help flush out toxins and keep your skin looking fresh. Additionally, drinking water can improve the elasticity of your skin, making it look more supple and youthful.

2. Protect your skin from the sun

Sun’s rays can cause damage to your skin, leading to premature aging, wrinkles, and even skin cancer.

To keep your skin protected, make sure to apply sunscreen with a high Sun Protection Factor, (SPF) before heading outdoors. Wearing protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses can also help shield your skin from harmful Ultraviolet (UV) rays.

And don’t forget to seek shade during peak sun hours, usually between 10 am and 4 pm. Stay sun-safe.

3. Quality sleep

Stick to a consistent sleep schedule, going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. Aim from seven to nine hours of   quality sleep each night.

This allows your body to repair and rejuvenate, giving you a refreshed and youthful look. Getting quality sleep is crucial for both physical and mental well-being. When you sleep, your body goes into repair mode.

It’s during deep sleep that your body produces growth hormone, which is essential for maintaining healthy skin and reducing the signs of aging.

Create a relaxing bedtime routine, and make your sleep environment comfortable and conducive to rest.

4. Exercise regularly

Engage in activities you enjoy such dancing, swimming or even hiking. At least aim 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercises.

Regular exercise is fantastic for both your physical and mental well-being. When exercising, the body releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters. It helps reduce stress and promotes a positive mindset.

Exercise also improves blood circulation, which delivers essential nutrients to the skin, giving it a healthy and youthful appearance. Additionally, staying active helps maintain muscle tone and flexibility.

5. Healthy diet

Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats provides the body with essential nutrients and antioxidants.

These nutrients help nourish the skin, promote collagen production, and protect against oxidative stress, which can contribute to aging. Including foods high in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids, can be particularly beneficial for skin health.

Remember, nourishing your body from the inside out with a nutritious diet is a great way to support your overall well being and maintain a youthful glow.

6. Take care of your skin

Establish a consistent skincare routine that works for you. Start by cleansing your face twice a day to remove dirt, oil, and impurities. Then, follow up with a toner to balance your skin’s pH levels.

Next, apply a moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated and nourished. And don’t forget to protect your skin from the sun by wearing sunscreen daily!

Exfoliating once or twice a week can also help remove dead skin cells and promote a fresh, radiant complexion.

7. Avoid smoking and limit alcohol

Smoking not only poses significant health risks, but can also have detrimental effects on your skin. It can lead to premature aging, wrinkles, and a dull complexion.

By steering clear of smoking, you can help preserve the natural radiance and elasticity of your skin. Similarly, excessive alcohol consumption can dehydrate the skin, causing dryness and contributing to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

8. Manage stress

When stressed, it can manifest in various ways, including breakouts, dull skin, and even premature aging. Finding effective ways to manage stress is key.

Engaging in activities that help relax and unwind, such as practicing mindfulness or meditation, exercising, or pursuing hobbies you enjoy, can all contribute to reducing stress levels.

It’s also important to prioritise self-care and make time for activities that bring you joy.

9. Cultivate positive mindset

By maintaining a positive mindset,  you can reduce stress levels and promote overall well-being. This, in turn, can improve your sleep quality, boost your energy levels, and encourage healthy habits such as regular exercise and proper nutrition.

These lifestyle factors can contribute to a youthful appearance. Moreover, a positive mindset can also enhance your confidence and self-esteem, which can radiate a vibrant energy and make you appear more youthful and attractive to others.

10. Mental stimulation

When you engage in activities that challenge your mind, it helps keep your brains active and agile. This can have a positive impact on your overall well-being, including your appearance.

Additionally, mental stimulation promotes cognitive function, memory retention, and problem-solving skills, which are all important aspects of maintaining a sharp and agile mind as we age.

So, by keeping our minds active and continuously learning, we can not only feel younger but also radiate a vibrant and youthful energy.
