Residents of Nyakinywa sub-location in Trans Nzoia County want their assistant chief reinstated despite being a drunkard.

In their special appeal to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya, the residents want John Gichoki, who is said to have been interdicted, to be given another chance saying he is good at service delivery.

Nyakinywa residents want a rehabilitation program for the sacked chief so that he can manage his addiction to alcohol.

Speaking during the launch of the Nyakinywa land titling program, the locals led by pastor Ibrahim Nduati, claimed that despite his drinking habit, he remains the best.

"Our assistant chief is the best. He serves us well despite the drinking problem and we, as locals have no problem with that," they said.

The locals who were in their hundreds beseeched Natembeya to intervene and arrange for his rehabilitation.

"We love our chief and humbly ask you to please look for a suitable rehabilitation centre and place him so that he can continue to serve as well. We love him and we do not want to lose him," they added.

Area Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny joined the locals in praising the administrator for fighting for the locals and asked for a solution to the situation.

"Don’t worry the chief is at home recovering after heavy drinking. Once he stabilizes, we hope he will get back to his good job,” Kuttuny said.

On his part, area sub-county commissioner Abiud Mwala asked locals to be patient as leaders address the issue.

"Do not worry because we are addressing the issue,” Abiud said.
