One of the members forming Tanzanian music group, The Mafik, was found dead at 2am on Thursday (August 15) on the shores of Indian Ocean in Dar es Salaam.

The body of Mbalamwezi -- one third of The Mafik -- was found naked on the shores of Africana Beach, with the cause of his death yet to be known.

“We are yet to know what killed him. We hope police will unveil the truth,” Mbalamwezi’s uncle, Mzee Chifu, told Tanzania’s Bongo 5.

Chifu says his family was informed about Mbalamwezi’s death by the musician’s two other group members.

Mbalamwezi’s brother-in-law, identified only as Dan, said one of The Mafik’s group members revealed that he was last seen on Monday at 8pm.

The three lived together at Kinondoni in Dar es Salaam.

“The informant told me that Mbalamwezi received a phone call around 8pm Monday. Despite his poor health at the time, he decided to step out. The source told us that that was the last time they set eyes on him, only to be called by police on Thursday that one of them was found dead on the shores of the ocean at 2am,” Dan told Tanzania’s Global Publishers.

The deceased’s uncle, Mzee Chifu, said he last spoke to Mbalamwezi one week ago, when the artiste told him that he was having issues with his landlord over house rent arrears.

The musician’s body was taken to Muhimbili National Hospital morgue in Dar es Salaam, awaiting postmortem examination.

The Mafik is known for songs such as “Niwaze” featuring Ruby, “Dodo”, “Passenger”, “Bobo” among others.
