RECAP: List of celebrities who broke up in 2021

As a number of Kenyan celebrities entered into relationships in 2021 with some even taking their unions to the next level but there's a tangible number whose relationships hit headwinds.

Here are some of the celebrity splits in 2021 that were sampled by K24 Digital;

1. Lilian Ng'ang'a and Governor Alfred Mutua

Machakos governor Alfred Mutua and his ex-wife Lilian Ng'ang'a announced their break up in August 2021 to the shock of Kenyans. Lilian took to her Instagram account to break the shocking news, further disclosing that she had also resigned as the Machakos First Lady.

The former First Lady has since moved on and is dating popular rapper Juliani. The duo's split has however been clouded with controversy, with Lilian Ng'ang'a accusing the county head of frustrating her and threatening her life and that of her new partner.

2.Comedian Mulamwah and Carol Sonie
Comedian Mulamwah and Carol Sonie's break up came just barely two months after they were blessed with a daughter.

Carol Sonie was the first to announce the break up on December 6, 2021 on her Instagram account, saying that they had amicably parted ways following reasons best known to them.

Mulamwah has since teased his fans with a photo and video of his supposed new lover. He remains tight-lipped on the break-up and indicated that he will comment on the matter at a later date.

3. Jowie Irungu and Ella
After his release on cash bail from lawful custody and his unprecedented entry into the gospel music industry, Joseph Irungu alias Jowie Irungu announced that he was in a relationship with model Micabel Ella.

Irungu was at the time of his arrest engaged to former TV girl Jackie Maribe.

After months of dating, Ella announced in February 2021 that she had parted ways with the crooner. She stated that she was just in the relationship to help the gospel artiste re-establish himself and save face following his implication in the murder case of businesswoman Monica Mwangi.

4. Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip and Saumu Mbuvi

After a much hyped union, controversial Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip and Saumu Mbuvi, daughter of former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, announced their break up on social media.

Saumu cited repeated domestic violence and infidelity from the senator as the reason of the split.

“He almost killed me. I will forever fight for women to stand for their rights. Never allow a man to be violent to you," she said then.

5.DJ Creme de la Creme and Denise

Disk Jockey George Njuguna and his long-time fiancée Denise Njuguna broke up after 14 years of living together.

DJ Creme proposed to Denise in March 2021 and referred to her as his wife.

The father of two however shared a post in July 2021 insinuating that their union was in hiatus. The entertainer later came out clean and revealed that they had parted ways amicably and are focused on bringing up their children.

"It is the past. We are not together for now, but we are working on things," he said.

"Our main agenda is that our kids are secure and are okay. I can't define our relationship, but at the end of the day, we are parents and adults who can handle our stuff," he said.

6.Nick Ndeda and Muthoni Gitau

Radio host Nick Ndeda and his long-time girlfriend Muthoni Gitau announced in July 2021 that their union of 7 years had come to an end.

The media personality broke the news on his social media pages, stating that they had ended their relationship after a mutual agreement.

“This is to let you know that Muthoni and I have decided to separate. This mutual decision we made however personal, does affect certain aspects of our public lives hence why we made this video talking about why what now and what next," he said.
