Mwala torn into over ‘are you not my wife?’ outburst, attempt to plant kiss on co-host

Section of social media users have called out actor-cum-radio presenter Mwala for “showing disrespect” to one of his co-hosts at Radio Citizen, Melody Sinzore, after the veteran actor grabbed Ms Sinzore by the neck as he goaded her to admit that she is his wife.

In a video clip posted to the radio station’s Facebook page on August 14, Mwala is seen in the company of Melody and the head of station, Jerida Andayi, inside the studio.

Music, which was on the air at the time, could be heard playing in the background as Mwala, whose real name is Davis Mwabili, embarked on a one-minute drama. 

It remains unclear whether the nervous confrontation among the trio was scripted, or it was spontaneous.

Below is a transcript of the heated exchange, that has since gone viral on Facebook:

MWALA: [Walks from his seat, which is directly opposite Ms Sinzore’s] Wewe, we, wewe, skia, wewe [grabs Ms Sinzore by the shoulders from behind], wacha nikuambie. [Melody removes her headsets from position].

JERIDA: Mwaala, Mwala!

MWALA: [Holds Melody by the neck using one hand]. Skiza, wacha nikuambie… [Raises his voice when Melody portrays disinterest. Wacha nikuambie… Are you my wife, or not?

MELODY: [Tries to free herself from Mwala’s grab]. Wait, Mwala…

MWALA: [Increases his aggression]. Are you my wife, or not?

MELODY: [Now agitated]. Mwala, you are taking this too far! [Jerida moves closer to the two, and tries to separate them. Mwala attempts to plant a kiss on Jerida’s cheek].

JERIDA: [Pulls Mwala away]. Toka hapa!

MWALA: [As he heads for his seat]. Huyu msichana (Melody) ananizoea sana.

JERIDA: Badala uwache Melody… Melody is still young and searching. Si umwache apate mume. Unashinda ukitangaza kwa redio kuwa wewe ni bwana yake. Wewe unaweza oa nani kwanza?

MELODY: Mimi nimekuambia vizuri Mwala, hizo jokes za wewe kusema kwa redio kuwa wewe ni bwana yangu, [uwache].

The video clip has since garnered 189, 000 views on Facebook, with users expressing mixed reactions on it.

Robert Iraru said: “I think the ladies decided to share this video to show the public how they are tired with Mwala’s embarrassment.”

David Karani said: “I love listening to the trio’s morning show. But sorry to say this, Mwala is somehow clumsy and he takes his jokes a bit too far. He should work on that.”

Alusiolah Tembo said: “This is just unbelievable, for sure! I have always imagined this to be a joke and on a light note… Something should be done.”

Sos Makuri said: “I don’t understand. Was this supposed to be a joke, or what? It, obviously, went outside the boundaries from whatever point of view.”
