Kenyan actor Edi Gathegi is set to feature in one of the newest Hollywood films that premiered in October 2021 and was produced by world-famous rapper and business mogul Shawn Carter, alias Jay-Z.

The movie named The Harder They Fall, which is also available on Netflix, became a trend after the rapper promoted it on his new Instagram page before deleting it a day after opening it.

Gathegi who was born in Umoja, Nairobi, is a Kenya-American actor who has branded his name on the Hollywood scene.

In the new trending movie, Jay-z serves as a producer on the project, which stars Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba and Regina King, while it garnered almost 2 million followers.

The cowboy movie whose principal cast members are all black is based on real cowboys, and outlaws of the 19th-century American West.

Gathegi plays the character of Bill Pickett, who was the best-known African American rodeo performer of all time.

Pickett invented the rodeo sport of bull dogging, which involves wrestling a young bull to the ground by grabbing its horns.

In a recent interview, Gathegi said that it was intriguing to be part of the movie where the key actors were all black, adding that many times cowboys were depicted as white people.

The US-based actor also said starring in the new movie was an opportunity to educate the masses about black slaves and the agony they went through during the 18th century.

“These people lived out here in this time, and it was a harsh world. It was the Wild West, and it was called the wild west for a reason,” he said.

The actor acknowledged felt honoured to narrate history through his craft.

Gathegi has hoisted the Kenyan flag high alongside other prominent Kenyans such as Lupita Nyongo in the Hollywood streets.
