The family of the late journalist Catherine Kasavuli is appealing to Kenyans to help them raise funds to settle her medical bills which accrued in the course of her treatment and hospital admission.

The family says the accrued medical bill at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and the Nairobi Hospital amounts to Ksh4 million.

“At the time of her passing away, she had accrued a cumulative hospital bill of Ksh4 million, being bills at both Kenyatta National Hospital and The Nairobi Hospital. We anticipate further bills at the funeral home and costs of interment which we can’t estimate now,” the deceased's son Martin Kasavuli said in a statement addressed to the Media Council of Kenya CEO and copied to six media managers in the country.

“It is with this mind that I write for your assistance in galvanizing her colleagues in the media fraternity, and the public to assist me clear the medical bills and give the late ‘Queen of Television’ a befitting farewell,” the statement added.

Mpesa Paybill Number – 8089700 and Account Number – Catherine Kasavuli were set to allow well-wishers to contribute their donations.

Kasavuli, 60, breathed her last on Thursday night at KNH where she was receiving treatment for cervical cancer.

Kasavuli's family went public about her condition while appealing for blood donation in early November.

The news anchor's media colleagues joined the campaign and urged Kenyans to visit KNH's private wing and donate blood for the media icon.
