Singer Akothee who has on several occasions been named as the richest artiste in Kenya has been in the limelight for a couple of years now.

The mother of five, or should we say six, has always been in the headlines for her business, career and family and has also built up a reputation as a controversial newsmaker.

This year, Akothee has caught the attention of the public over several debatable moments revolving around her life, career, children as well as other people's businesses.

Here are some of her most controversial moments in 2021 as sampled by K24 Digital;

She threatened to expose Kempinski for alleged mistreatment

In September, Akothee threatened to expose posh hotel Villarosa Kempinski management over what she termed as a total mess.

This statement was released just a day after she held an all glamorous event to celebrate her foundation’s one year anniversary.

Taking to social media, Akothee in her insta-stories said she regretted holding her foundation’s first anniversary in the hotel claiming she will never step her feet in the building ever again.

“The management of Kempinski is a total mess, with an ugly attitude. All my life I have held events in Kempinski (and) I have never met such arrogant, unprofessional, bitter managers.

“I regret having engaged Kempinski in holding the First Anniversary of my foundation. I will never ever step foot in that dirty dusty building. Will address this on Wednesday,” she wrote.

She picked her favourite of her three baby daddies during Fathers' Day

During this year's Fathers' Day, Akothee celebrated all the fathers of her five children revealing her favourite of the three baby daddies.

In a social media post, she lauded her son's father noting that he has made co-parenting easy.

“The respect I have for my baby daddies is served in heaven. The one who takes the crown is Papa Oyoo. Papa Oyoo My one and only, you make co-parenting look easy,” she wrote.

Akothee further disclosed that her favourite baby daddy agreed to meet her dad who has been asking about him, adding that she was looking forward to introducing him to the dad.

“Thank you for honouring my request to come and see my dad, he has been asking for you. Kesho nikupeleke Rongo, kule nilikozaliwa, wazazi wangu wakushukuru kwa kuwalea watoto wetu (Tomorrow I’ll take you to Rongo where I was born so that my parents can thank you for taking good care of our kids),” she wrote.

Sixth born

The mother of five on Saturday, December 11, introduced to the world a new member of her family.

Akothee also revealed that the baby was born through surrogacy adding that her new addition to her family is a girl named Elizabeth; “My bundle of joy is here. Thank you to the woman who carried my baby. May you be blessed Baby Elizabeth,” Akothee noted.

A few hours later, Akothee's lover Nelly Oaks seemingly confirmed the same which would therefore mean that the Benefactor hitmaker will have six children – four girls and two boys.

However, the photo shared by the lovers; Akothee and Nelly, resembles one from her old music video thereby making it difficult to be believed.

In the song dubbed ‘Baraka’ by Akothee featuring Linex, which was released in 2019, she is seen in the same dress and same hairstyle holding a baby in the same position.

Ksh1M for shows

The award-winning artiste disclosed that she charges over Ksh1 million for shows, events and concerts.

Taking to social media, Akothee faulted Kenyan artistes for accepting petty cash in events while their foreign counterparts bag fortunes on their Kenyan tours and concerts.

“Curtain raising for artistes from outside the country in the name of unapewa platform, mimi na hii zero talent yangu, hunipati kwa ujinga Kaa hizo.. for me I am selling a brand, music tafuteni kwa waimbaji siko huko.

In Kenya if you are a promoter and you don’t have Ksh1 million, don’t call my manager, for me I am selling a brand,” she wrote.

Who is a child's father?

In November, Eric Omondi wrote a lengthy message on Instagram claiming that on the night Jacque is believed to have conceived, the two used protection because after all, she was dating popular journalist Sam Ogina.

Eric wanted to go for DNA test to ascertain if he was the father of Maribe's son.

He further claimed that after two months, Jacque would then come around to say she was pregnant and while he questioned the chances that he was the father, Omondi said Maribe supported her claims based on ‘motherly instincts’

“After two months Jacque tells me she’s pregnant!!! I immediately ask her how since we used protection??? She then tells me “It doesn’t matter the mother always knows who the Father is and that I am the Father!!!” he added.

Addressing this claim, Akothee said that mothers decide who fathers their children thereby asking Eric Omondi to take responsibility and withdraw his demands.

“Eric wachana Na DNA ,us women / mothers decides who father’s our children hata kama Sio Yako ,tumekuchagua ,wewe lea tu mtoto ni wetu sote,” she noted.
