Cafe Ngoma Awards is an initiative that seeks to celebrate musicians, businesses, and personalities within the alternative space.
Currently, in our fourth year, the inaugural edition was held on December 16, 2017, at Brookhouse International School, attracting about 11,000 votes within three weeks, awarding 20 winners from 80 nominees within 16 categories, including four honorary awards.
The inaugural edition was an invite-only affair covering 400 people so as to manage the overwhelming surge realized on the voting platform.
The awards are conducted annually by Café Ngoma which is a media and entertainment company that promotes alternative content from Africa and the rest of the world, primarily Music.
During its third edition, the awards introduced two new categories, bring total to 22, including that of a national hero.
Inayata Kassam was the recipient of the first national hero award for his bravery at Westgate Shopping Mall siege and Dusit D2 terrorist attacks, two events in which he helped save many lives.
The edition also featured a special message from the first black South African woman to conduct and own the first ever all-black orchestra, Ofentse Pitse, together with a message from veteran International- Kenyan Artist ‘Hardstone’.
This year, on December 5, in partnership with K24 and Two Rivers Mall, we will host our 4th edition featuring a schedule of great performances, nominees, and special messages from; Grammy Nominated Singer Songwriter Kenny Lattimore, VP Distribution & Networks Sony Pictures Entertainment Africa Kunle Falodun, President of the Myles and Ruth Munroe Foundation Charisa Munroe, CEO Hanson Robotics Hong Kong David Hanson & Sophia the Robot– The World’s first humanoid Robot.
