The family of Zimbabwean fitness enthusiast Mimi Moana, whose real name is Mitchelle Umali, has pleaded for financial help towards footing her burial expenses slated for earliest November 25, 2020.

Mimi Moana, 26, died on Sunday, November 8 in a road accident in the capital Harare.

She had -- the previous night -- celebrated her birthday alongside controversial businessman Genius Kadungure, aka Ginimbi, at a Harare nightclub.

Mimi Moana, her female friend Elisha, Ginimbi and Ginimbi’s friend Karim, were driving home in the wee hours of Sunday morning when Ginimbi’s car, a Rolls Royce Wraith, collided head-on with a Honda Fit before veering off the road and hitting a tree.

The vehicle, thereafter, burst into flames, killing Moana, Elisha and Karim. Ginimbi, who had been rescued by well-wishers, died a few meters from the fire scene.

Moana’s family was on Tuesday, November 10 told that it would take longer to differentiate her body from that of Elisha, given the two were burnt beyond recognition.

As a result, the earliest date Moana’s burial would take place is November 25, her family said on Wednesday.

Moana’s friend, identified only as Lin, told Zimbabwean media that a fundraiser is needed to meet Moana’s burial expenses.

“Regrettable on Sunday we all woke up to gruesome images and videos of Moana’s demise. It is under these circumstances that the family has asked me to make a public appeal to you all for help of any form or kind so they can give her a good and decent send off,” said Lin in a statement published by Zimbabwean media.

“Anyone willing to help the family please reach them through her friend Lin +263 78 477 9561. She will give you finer details on how to go about it. No amount is too little, Thank you. RIP Mimi,” added Lin.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Mimi Moana was six weeks pregnant when she died.

Her sister, Tatenda, said Moana was expecting her first child with her South African-based boyfriend.

“My sister’s boyfriend had warned her against going out with Ginimbi on Saturday night, but she defied him,” said Tatenda.
