Kenya Power has appointed Mr Bernard Ngugi, a former general manager in charge of supply, as its new managing director and chief executive officer.

The appointment takes effect from October 28, 2019.

Kenya Power board of directors said they picked Mr Ngugi following a competitive process.

Mr Ngugi takes over from Dr Ken Tarus, who is facing charges over corruption allegations involving millions of shillings.

Dr Tarus and other former Kenya Power bosses found themselves in trouble with the law over procurement of defective transformers and irregularities in prequalifying 525 companies for labour and transport contracts.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noording Haji, in one swoop, ordered their arrest and charging.
